About Me

When I began teaching at Dirksen, I was the ESL teacher for 5 years.  Since, then, I've been teaching Kindergarten.

 

Curriculum

My Long term goals for the school year:

  • Children will learn to use phonics and other strategies to read and comprehend the written word

  • Children will learn to write short sentence stories on their own

  • Children will learn to communicate orally

  • Children will learn to love school

  • Children will learn to add and subtract numbers to 10., count to and recognize numbers to 100, measure and tell time to the half hour

  • Children will learn about living things, plants, animals,  insects, recycling

  • Children will learn about community helpers, families, rules, holidays, seasons, maps

  • Children will learn how to follow directions, settle disputes, cooperate with adults and peers

  • Children will work on perfecting small motor skills by printing and cutting

 

Schedule

Monday - Computers Tuesday - Music Wednesday - Gym
Thursday - Library Friday - Alternates Quarterly  

 

Homework

Children will choose and bring home a book to be read by a parent each day.

They are also expected to complete one worksheet each night.

 

Field Trips

The kindergarten classes schedule trips to:

  • The Chicago Children's Museum

  • The Shedd Aquarium-Oceanarium

  • Lincoln Park Zoo

 

Report Card Grades

W - Well Developed

P - Partially Developed
